I’m excited to say that I’ve joined the Duluth News Tribune as an arts and entertainment reporter. The Duluth News Tribune is a daily newspaper that’s been covering the northland since 1870. (This is Duluth, Minnesota — not to be confused with Duluth, Georgia.) Here are some of my stories for the paper. At the outset, I got to be the news…my new colleague Laura Butterbrodt wrote a profile tracking my journey to this job.
Aptly, my path to this first newspaper job started right here in Duluth. My family lived here when I was ages 6-11, and when we’d visit the iconic Duluth Public Library I’d proudly walk over from the children’s section to the adult section to grab Roger Ebert’s Movie Home Companion, a compilation of the critic’s reviews for the Chicago Sun-Times. When my family moved to St. Paul and I started high school, the first thing I did was find the newspaper advisor (gracias, Señora Cowan) to ask if the St. Agnes Hi-Times needed a movie critic.
Yes, this means my partner Dana and I are relocating to Duluth, as of this summer; I’ll be commuting this spring, while she finishes the academic year at the high school where she teaches. Of course we’ll stay closely connected to the Twin Cities, but I’m excited to make a new home at the tip of Lake Superior. I appreciate the eight-plus years of fun, support, and constructive challenge I’ve enjoyed with my former colleagues at The Current. I’ll certainly keep listening! I hear the Duluth Local Show is pretty good.
